Imphal, July 15 2009: Reacting to a news report published in some sections of the media on June 30, Tingsong Union Steering Committee clarified that the paddy nurseries and huts were destroyed by the villagers of the Tingsong village, not as a vengeance, but to utilise it to meet the need of Tingsong village.

Claiming that areas where the villagers of Khamsom grew paddy nurseries was theirs, a press release of the committee further said that the village authority of Tingsong has been serving notification for the past three-four years to pay tax to the VA if anybody use the land under the boundary of Tingsong for any purpose.

So the villagers of Tingsong had to destroy paddy nurseries and huts as the concerned persons failed to comply with the notice, it added.
