Imphal, May 11 2009:
Troops of 20 Assam Rifles of 26 Sector under HQ IGAR(South) located at permanent vehicle check post at Bongyang intercepted a Tata truck Regd No.MN 01 7035 on May 9 at 2 pm and found 5,620 kgs of Red Sandal Wood being transported in the vehicle, a press release from the PRO, HQ IG AR (South) informed.
According to the press release, the vehicle was coming from Goalpara (Assam) to Moreh.
The transporter of the wood has been identified as one Inaocha, a resident of Imphal.
The individual and the vehicle along with the recovered wood have been handed over to Forest Office, Pallel on that day itself.
