Man sentenced

Imphal, April 24 2015 :
The Court of Chief Judicial Magistrate, Imphal West today sentenced a man to simple imprisonment of eight months with a fine of Rs 25,000 for transporting 991 kgs of Sea Cucumber (Holothurians) in an Air India flight from Kolkata to Imphal.
He has been identified as Sikander Singh Gill (44) s/o (L) Gurmail Singh Gill of Bathu Basti, Garacharama, Port Blair, Andaman.
He was convicted under Section 51 (1A) of the Wildlife (Protection) Act 1972, said a statement issued by Range Forest Officer of Sadar East Range, Chingmeirong.
Sea Cucumber is protected under Schedule-I, Part-IV (C) of the Wildlife (Protection) Act, 1972, added the statement.
