Imphal, July 23: Levelling a series of allegations against the DC of Tamenglong district, 22 village headmen of the said district have submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister demanding the transfer of the officer immediately.

Efforts to contact the DC to get his side of the story proved futile as no one picked up the phone at his quarters at Tamenglong while the incoming service was not available on his mobile.

The memorandum said that ever since the DC, Divesh Deval was posted as i/c DC Tamenglong in February this year, he has been out of station most of the time.

Giving details, the headmen said that the DC took five days casual leave in February from 6-8 Feb, 9-10 Feb and 11 Feb.

In April, the officer took 15 days casual leave, alleged the memorandum while in May he was on leave since May 15.In June, he was out of station for 13 days, alleged the memorandum and added that in July he has not been attending office since July 2 .

Tamenglong is the bost backward district, said the headmen and added that suffering faced by the people due to the bamboo flowering was compounded by locust destroying standing crops.

There is also shortage of food, said the memorandum and added that when the villagers went to meet the DC they found him absent at office.

The village headmen also accused the DC of gross corruption and charged he is interested in NREGS only because of the gains that he can make.

Moreover most of the contingency funds have also been taken by the DC, alleged the headmen further.

The officer was also accused of being immoral.

Urging the Chief Minister to transfer Deval from the district immediately, the headmen warned that failure to meet their demand would invite agitations.

Tanker Drivers demand action:Demanding action against former manager of Imphal Depot of Assam Oil Division Amarjyoti Bordoloi as well as in protest against monetary demand of outlawed underground organisations, members of All Manipur Petroleum Tankers Drivers' Union today staged a Wakat Meepham at Chingmeirong today.

Talking to mediapersons on the sideline of the protest demonstration, Union president Y Bhupenchandra Ghosh said the protest demonstration was being staged to demanded action against Bordoloi in connection with the incident of assaulting a tanker driver after calling him inside his office chamber sometime days earlier as well as in pritest of unbearable monetary demands from underground organisation.

Various agitations have been launched in the past in this regard and there have been lot of instances in which the drivers wh are carrying out their duties regardless of day and night being subjected to torture, abduction and even killing, he lamented.

He also complained against the failure of the AOD authorities to institute and inquiry against Bordoloi inspite of giving an assurance in this connection earlier.

In the face of the indifferent attitude of the authoritiies, the Union has decided to take up various intense democratic agitation, he disclosed.
