Child activist Licypriya Kangujam develops low cost face shields

New Delhi, July 12 2020: Eight-year-old Licypriya Kangujam has developed a low-cost 'face shields' for the doctors and the policemen as COVID-19 cases surge.

The face shields cost only Rs 15 per piece in design and making.

She called it "Liface Protective Gear" where "Li" stands for her name.

As a goodwill gesture, she is using up her piggy bank savings to make face shields for the frontline warriors battling coronavirus.

"These protective face shields are designed without any 3D printer which is very expensive.

All the materials that have been used for making these shields are simple stationery materials that we use in our everyday life.

We are trying to keep it as economic as possible and relatively easy to produce.

I used a better quality 250 micron acrylic sheet which is completely recyclable.

These face shields will help them to protect their overall face for a longer time without much discomfort.

My little sister and mom also helped me in production", said Licypriya, an environmental and climate child activist.

"I used only an acrylic sheet, sponge, hot glue gun, a paper puncture and an elastic band.

We can make about 30 pieces each day.

I spent only about Rs 15 to make one piece.

We are donating them for free of cost.

I was inspired by a 12 year old Mexican friend Mr Jorge Martinez Gracida after he posted the making on his facebook in April", she said.

"I'm very thankful to each and every person out there who are standing to fight the pandemic and making efforts to keep our country safe.

I'm very glad that I could contribute a little of our knowledge for them.

Our aim is to keep them safe who are risking their lives to keep us safe.

I am very happy that finally I can make this contribution for our frontline corona warriors," she added.

"We even received an order from a hospital to supply 10,000 pieces.

They wanted to pay her Rs.100 per piece but she simply declined the offer as she is engaged in various climate events.

But, she will be making another 500 pieces to dispatch to her birthplace Manipur as the COVID-19 cases have surged there since last month", her mother Bidyarani Kangujam told the media.

So far, she has made more than 1000 pieces of face shields in the last 3 months and gifted them to Delhi Police, sanitary workers, and various hospitals including AIIMS, New Delhi.

She also feeds stray animals during the Nationwide lockdown and also regularly provides water to street plants which are left unattended due to the sudden lockdown.
