The Lup has additionally called upon bandh supporters to exercise restraint and avoid excessive actions.
At a press briefing held at the hall of Uripok Sorbon Thingel Library today, Samom Dhurba, general secretary, UAL, said that after reaching an agreement with the Manipur Governor, Arambai Tenggol surrendered their weapons in a move to bring peace in Manipur.
More recently they stepped up to rescue and extend help to flood affected people in different parts of the State.
As such, he strongly condemned the arrest of key AT leader Asem Kanan and other members on behalf of Uripok Apunba Lup and Uripok Apunba Nupi Lup, stating that it happened out of the blue.
The UAL general secretary also urged the State legislators to take active measures to establish a popular Government instead of engaging in evasion tactics by reasoning that it cannot be achieved without the permission of Centre/Delhi.
Saying that the people's outrage may veer out of control and be directed at the MLAs, he strongly urged them to form a new Government on behalf of UAL.
Lending support to AT's 10-day shutdown, he also appealed to bandh supporters to avoid troubling essential service workers or those attending religious functions.
Further, he urged them to refrain from blocking the roads in Uripok area by burning tyres or dumping earth matters as people in need of medical attention usually take this route to reach RIMS and Shija Hospital.
"Let us not obstruct people travelling for emergency reasons", he maintained.
Meanwhile, UAL vice president Kh Tarunkumar condemned the assault on a media person by Central security forces terming it an insult to democracy.
He also appealed to bandh supporters to allow media persons to freely cover the events.
Kh Tarunkumar went on to denounce the Government's predictable and repeated response of internet shutdown whenever a people's movement erupts in Manipur.
Highlighting the innumerable downsides of banning the internet on ordinary citizens, he said that the act is a violation of people's rights.
Saying that the Government should exist for the people, he demanded the ban to be lifted swiftly.
