Imphal, March 06 2011:
Taking strong exception to the practice of conducting entrance tests at the time of admitting their children and wards in some private schools even after the Right to Education (RTE) Act has been implemented all over the country including Manipur, the All Manipur Student Guardians Association (AMSGA) has demanded that the Government should immediately put to an end such practice and penalise the defaulters.
Speaking to media persons at their Palace Compound office today, AMSGA advisor Haobijam Kullachandra asserted that conducting entrance tests for young students is in violation of the RTE Act.
The Government should take the matter with the seriousness it merits, he said.
He demanded that the Government should ban conducting interview or written test at the time of admission of young students in private schools, Government schools as well as aided schools.

Even as the RTE Act has been implemented in Manipur, students and guardians of the State are yet to receive any benefit from the Act as the same Act has been implemented only on official files, said N Tomba, another advisor of AMSGA.
Referring to the provision of RTE Act which declared that all students up to 14 years and belonging to BPL families should be given free and compulsory education, Tomba urged the authorities concerned to implement the Act in letter and spirit.
Kullachandra further appealed to the Govt to declare results of the viva voce held for recruitment of Havildars and CRTO.
Highlighting the unhealthy trend of holding back results after conducting recruitment exams for different departments, Kullachandra urged for established of a commission to conduct recruitment exams for non-gazetted posts.
