Imphal, August 01 2024: Chief Minister N Biren has announced that a centre of National Eligibility Entrance Test (NEET) would be opened at Imphal.

The Chief Minister made this announcement in the State Assembly today.

Replying to a question raised by MLA K Ranjit, N Biren stated that there is no restriction on IDPs from taking out rallies if the rallies are about their needs.

But the demand (of the IDPs) to occupy the houses of MLAs and the MLAs and their families should stay in relief camps is unacceptable, he said.

Reacting to the Chief Minister's reply, K Ranjit recalled N Biren's own statement on rallies taken out in hill districts that India is a democratic country and the people have the right to exercise their freedom of speech and expression.

But when the IDPs took out a rally at Akampat today, police fired not only tear gas shells but also live bullets.

Even journalists were not spared, Ranjit added.
