Imphal, November 11 2014:
At least two personnel of the 26th Assam Rifles have been killed while three others sustained injuries when some UG cadres attacked them with sophisticated weapons at Behiang, close to Myanmar border at around 11.25 am today.
Sources informed that troops of 26 AR, F Coy posted at Behiang under Singhat sub-division of Churachandpur district went to fetch water when they were attacked by the militants.
The militants first set off an IED as the AR troops reached Zogai Memorial School.
Then they opened fire indiscriminately at the AR troops.
Even as the AR troops retaliated immediately, two personnel were killed in the attack while three others were wounded.
With the arrival of reinforcement, intensive search operation was conducted in the area.
It is suspected that the militants sneaked into Manipur from Myanmar past border pillar number 43 and went back to the neighbouring country through the same route after attacking the AR troops.
All the three AR personnel wounded in the attack have been brought to the Leimakhong military hospital of 57 Mountain Division.
