Imphal, November 11 2014:
Trinamool Congress, Manipur unit president and Andro A/C MLA Th Shyamkumar has blamed inefficacy of the Home Department for the rising crime against women in the State.
Speaking to media persons at his official quarters this morning, Shyamkumar said that the recent crimes which targeted young girls ought to be viewed and treated with utmost seriousness.
Though such incidents have increased alarmingly there is no sign of the Government working seriously to book and punish the culprits promptly.
This is one factor for the soaring crime rate against women, Shyamkumar said.
Trials regarding rape, rape plus murder and all kinds of violence against women should be entrusted to fast track Courts so as to check all such criminal activities at least to some extent.
Inclusion of Moral Science as a compulsory subject in the school curriculum would be beneficial in the long run, he suggested.
The rape of a 17 year old physically and mentally challenged girl at Nambol Kongkham on November 4, rape and murder of an eight year old girl at Tharoijam on November 5 and the murder of an 18 year old girl at Wangbal on November 9 were quite shocking, said the AITC MLA.
