Bluff to play victim card called out

Imphal, September 02 2023:
The fresh unprovoked attacks launched by the armed Kukis after days of calm has a G-20 summit angle to it.
The Kuki militants are banking on a fierce retaliation from the Meiteis that would help them play the victim card further again in front of the leaders of the foreign countries, said Universal Mother's Organisation (UMO) .
In a statement, UMO said the Kuki militants are laying traps that would portray Meiteis' retaliation to their attacks as offensives and gain sympathy from the world leaders during the New Delhi G-20 Summit.
India will host the G-20 Summit in Delhi on September 9-10 .
UMO said the Kukis know that their demand for creation of a separate administration has failed after Union Home Minister Amit Shah clearly spelt out the source of the present unrest and pointed fingers at infiltrators from neighbouring Myanmar.
They (Kukis) know that their attempts to play the victim card by giving the conflict a majority Vs minority or a Hindu Vs Christian tinge have fallen short.
Their webs of lies were exposed when the Union Home Minister spoke of illegal immigrants from Myanmar in the Parliament recently, said UMO.
In the early stage of the conflict, they played the victim card and gained sympathies from several international bodies and Europe.
But now, their lies have been exposed.
The United Naga Council (UNC) too have recently exposed their lies and attempts to fabricate history.
Knowing clearly that the "separate administration" demand will remain a dream, they are now trying a new tactic just before the G-20 Summit.
They want the Meiteis to fiercely retaliate to their attacks on the foothills and show it to the world leaders as offensive, said UMO.
The armed village volunteers and Kuki militants are carrying out a "suicidal war".
People should be aware of this and remain alert to thwart this new see-through tactic, it said.
On the other hand, the apparent absence of leaders who can feel empathy for the people and the "degrading" democracy at present will remain dark pages in the history of Manipur, said UMO.
The mothers of the Manipuri society are deeply saddened that the elected leaders have failed to even hold a normal Assembly session and take resolutions to protect the State.
Holding a merely 11-minute long session, playing games with the plight of the people and future of the State for political mileage have brought shame, it said.
Those who can't stand tall for the State's integrity are not leaders.
If they are not able to put out the fire burning Manipur, then people may rise against them and turn the throne of gold they so desire into ashes.
History is witness to such examples and they should remember this, said UMO.
It stressed that now is not the time for the Ruling and the Opposition to play war of words.
The Government has rightly urged the civil society organisations to unite, but in order to do so and lead by example, all the 40 Meitei MLAs must unite first, UMO said.
It further expressed disappointment that MP RK Ranjan, who is also the Union Minister of State for External Affairs has not said anything concrete on the issue till today.
This is the first time in the history of modern Manipur that people have been forced to defend the State.
If the Government is not able, it should remember that there are plenty of others among the people who can lead, said UMO.
