IDPD vows medical help to relief camps

Indian Doctors for Peace & Development (IDPD) national president Dr Arun Mitra has said that the pan India doctors' body will extend medical help to relief camps opened in different parts of the state.
Addressing media persons at Hotel Nirmala Saturday, Dr Arun said he initially thought that violence in Manipur would end within few days but distressfully the mayhem continues unabated.
In view of thousands of people directly affected by the violence, a team of IDPD is in the state to assess conditions of people staying in relief camps.
The team visited relief camps at Khuman Lampak and Kangpokpi, where displaced people are currently sheltered, Dr Mitra said.
According to Dr Mitra, the IDPD team found displaced people at relief camps in Kangpokpi living in very unhygienic condition and they lack medical facility.
Children and elderly people staying in the camps were visibly ill and they require immediate medical attention and accordingly government must ensure them necessary medical facilities, he said adding that some children were found having mental stress.
In case of medical shortages in relief camps, IDPD will make effort to replenish stock of medicines at the earliest, he added.
IDPD team member Dr Sakir also informed media persons that relief camps in Kangpokpi are facing acute medical supplies and surgeon doctor.
For this, government should construct pre-fabricated hospital and operation theatre at the earliest.
The press conference was also attended by IDPD state president Dr M Nara, state vice presidents Dr Y Mohen and Dr Manglem.
