Kukis destroy/steal machinery worth Rs 95 Cr

A number of costly machinery used in constructing roads under National Highway Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited (NHIDCL) have been stolen, vandalised and destroyed by some Kukis.
The machinery kept in the camps of two companies engaged in constructing NH-102(B) from Churachandpur to Mizoram border (Tuivai River) were stolen, vandalised and set ablaze by some Kuki petty miscreants.
A large number of armed Kukis came to the two camps located at Mokot village near Singhat and in between Sinzawl and Wanggin in the afternoon of May 5 .

The armed Kukis loaded the lighter machines and equipment in their vehicles while the heavier machines were set ablaze.
Nothing was left behind at the camp located between Sinzawl and Wanggin after it was ransacked by the armed Kukis.
The machines and equipment stolen by the armed Kukis included earth moving equipment, hot-mix plant and machines used in bituminous works.
Moreover, the armed Kukis took away every single article found in the two camps including GI sheets, generators and water pumps.
They also removed and took away several parts of excavators (JCB), dozers, rollers, trucks, crushers and other machinery.
The armed Kukis came back with sophisticated machines including metal cutters and gas cutters and cut away several parts of the heavy equipment which they set ablaze earlier.
Further, the armed Kukis threatened all the staff of the two companies and labourers stationed at the two camps to leave the area.
The staff and the labourers, fearing for their lives, ran to the nearby jungles and hid there for the whole night.
The two companies engaged by NHIDCL for construction of NH 102(B) are Bharat Vanijiya Eastern Private Limited and GPT Infra Projects.
The armed Kukis stole/destroyed machinery worth around Rs 30 crore from Mokot camp while machinery worth around Rs 65 crore were destroyed/stolen from the camp located in between Sinzawl and Wanggin.
Apart from registering an FIR with police, the incident of ransacking and destroying machinery has been apprised to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, sources informed.
