Importance of skill development for employment generation highlighted

The Manipur Society for Skill Development, Government of Manipur in collaboration with the District Administration, Ukhrul organised a one day 'District Skill cum Employment Mela' at Townhall, Ukhrul today.
The District Skill cum Employment Mela was organised to generate awareness about various Central and State Government's skill development schemes and to connect the youths with various training providers and major employers of the State so as to bridge the gap of demand and supply in the job market.
Functional President and Chairman of the District Skill Committee, Kengoo Zuringla, IAS, Deputy Commissioner said this kind of mela will enable the unemployed youths in the district to get employment through skill development.

She also urged all participants to visit all stalls and interact with the resource persons and avail the benefits of the event.
The Deputy Commissioner Ukhrul also released a book titled 'Gateway', a book for various categories of students and job seekers by the career pathfinder.
Speaking as the chief guest, LN Kashung, IAS, Mission Director, Manipur Society for Skill Development stressed on the need of changing the conventional mindset to get adapted with the changing world.
'The present generation must upskill and upscale themselves with the system, resistance to changes will leave us behind in this competitive world', he said.
Youth must capacitate themselves and prepare to fit in for the job that does not exist today but would there after ten years down the line, he added.
He further stated that one can upscale their skills through skill development and by putting the acquired knowledge into practice by taking vocational training.
There were 28 key major partners in the event from Government as well as private sectors which include CIPET - which provides training program on plastic processing; NIELIT - technical for solar and electrical; MSRLM - NRLM; DDU GKY; youth skill program; URA TRUST - Competitive Exam Awareness; SIHM - hospitality; JCRE Skill Solution - Mason & plumber; EMPORIUM Nagaland - aviation and hospitality; Go Aviators- cabin crew and ground staff; KP Philanthropy- self employed tailor; Job Thiminasi - recruitment in various jobs; UDCRMS - multi training; KVK agro based training and Assam Rifles - recruitment awareness.
As part of the event partner various stalls were opened for display of local products like zingran foods, shirien products, Amachi handloom, soyam foods, shonthui foods and wino weaving cooperative society.
Over 450 youths and students filled the "Aspiration Survey", the survey form basically designed for appropriate district skill policy for youths of Ukhrul district.
