Uikey notes activities of Scouts and Guides

Governor Anusuiya Uikey has said that the objective of the Bharat Scouts and Guides is to develop good human qualities of students, create cultured citizens, instill leadership qualities and ensure their participation in Nation building.
The Governor said this at the 10th Governor Rally (Rajya Puraskar Distribution Ceremony) of the Manipur State Bharat Scouts and Guides.
As chief patron, Governor Anusuiya Uikey distributed State Awards to 33 Scouts and Guides and handed over Asia Pacific Leadership Awards to two State Commissioner Guides, L Lakshmi Devi and Ksh Phajaton Devi.
The observance was held at the Durbar Hall of Raj Bhavan in Imphal today, PRO Raj Bhavan said in a statement.
On the occasion, Governor Anusuiya Uikey said, "The mission of Scouting is to contribute to the education of young people, through a value system based on the Scout Promise and Law, to help build a better world where people are self-fulfilled as individuals and play a constructive role in society" .
It is a matter of great satisfaction to know that Manipur Scouts and Guides is playing an active and important role in character building of the youth in Manipur and contributing in strengthening harmony, brotherhood and secularism, she said.
The Governor said Manipur Scouts and Guides is learnt to have carried out many activities in the State including Swachh Bharat Mission, Advanced Courses for Scout Masters and Guides and various training courses outside the State.
Manipur is going through a period of unrest due to the ethnic conflict that broke out on May 3 .
Scout and Guides can help in establishing peace, harmony and brotherhood in the society, she said, appealing all to join hands together in the efforts to resolve the present crisis peacefully and amicably.
The Governor stated that the Bharat Scouts and Guides is the country's largest voluntary, non-political, uniformed youth organization and educational movement working in the field of character building of young boys and girls without any discrimination of caste, creed and religion.
Insisting that only education from text books isn't enough, she said students should join organisations like, NCC, NSS, Scouts & Guides to gain knowledge and vast experiences through training, camps and visits.
Joining these organisations may widen their views of the world and help develop their personality, she added.
Education Minister Th Basanta Kumar Singh, MLA Janghemlung Panmei, State Chief Commissioner Bharat Scouts and Guides M Shushilkumar Singh among others attended the ceremony.
