Imphal, August 16 2020:
Hailing the proposal of the Ministry of Tribal Affairs to construct a Tribal Freedom Fighters' Museum in Manipur as a recognition of the contributions of Rani Gaidinliu and other women freedom fighters, the Zeliangrong Civil Organizations today said that it is nonetheless perturbed to note that no project worth a name has been launched or established in her native district at Manipur.
In a statement issued today, the ZCO said that while it is learnt that the proposed Tribal Freedom Fighters' Museum will feature some other tribal women freedom fighters, the fact stands that there is no one as prominent as Rani Gaidinliu.
Therefore, it would be most appropriate to construct the museum in her native district, said ZCO and added that some important projects taken up in memory of the veteran freedom fighter were abandoned like the one in Kohima (i.e.Rani Museum cum Library), Nagaland due to objection raised by some ill-motivated sections of people based on religion and indigenous issue.
It is quite surprising to learn that the proposed Tribal Freedom Fighters' Museum which was earlier proposed to be set up near the native village of Rani Gaidinliu is being planned to be shifted to another location ie, Makhel, Senapati district of Manipur due to some political pressure.
If the original site proposed earlier is not feasible because of any reason, the proposed Museum may kindly be set up at Noney district headquarters which is just 64 kms away from Imphal, added ZCO.
Noney District is of one the Zeliangrong native districts to which Rani Maa Gaidinliu belonged.
The parameters laid down by the National Level Committee (NLC) in its meeting held on February 18, 2020 such as regular power supply, police station, fire brigade, ATM & banking services, market, hotels & restaurants, PHC, etc.
are available at Noney, reasoned ZCO and added that NH-37 is passing through this town and railway station is also under construction here.
The proposed site, Noney is just one and half hour drive away from Bir Tikendrajit International Airport.
