16 MT of dry turmeric, ginger sent to Mumbai

Altogether 16 metric tonnes of dry turmeric and ginger valued at around Rs 40 lakh were exported to Mumbai at the initiative of the Manipur Organic Mission Agency (MOMA) under the State Government's Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department.
MOMA started sending 16 metric tonnes of dry turmeric and ginger to Mumbai in association with the Chakhao Poireiton Organic Producer Company Limited, Imphal.
The consignment of dry turmeric and ginger was flagged off from Horticulture and Soil Conservation's organic outlet, Sanjenthong this morning by top officers of Horticulture and Soil Conservation including Commissioner Thuithanglung Panmei, Director K Devdutta Sharma and MOMA Project Director Donald.

Thuithanglung Panmei said that a substantial quantity of fresh pineapple was sent to Delhi recently and information has been received that all the pineapples will be sold off within two-three days.
Friends and acquaintances in Delhi said that the pineapples brought from Manipur are quite tasty and juicy.
Efforts are underway to send another consignment of pineapples to Delhi soon, he said.
In addition to the dry turmeric and ginger sent today, the Horticulture and Soil Conservation Department is also preparing to send fresh turmeric and ginger to Mumbai, Thuithanglung Panmei said.
He said that NEDFI has been facilitating and helping MOMA in marketing turmeric and ginger produced in Manipur.
He said that the department has been working hard to augment the income of organic farmers of Manipur.
Horticulture and Soil Conservation Director K Devdutta said that MOMA has been consistently helping organic farmers of Manipur in marketing their produces outside the State.
Turmeric and ginger collected by the Chakhao Poireiton Organic Producer Company Limited from farmers are sliced into pieces, dried and then sent to Mumbai after packaging them systematically, he said.
On the Manipur organic outlet opened at Dubai, Devdutta said that the outlet faced certain challenges during the initial days.
Even though fresh produces were sold quickly, there were certain problems with packaged products due to absence of bar coding and incomplete nutritional information which must be determined after testing by an accredited laboratory, he said.
The department has been working hard to address these problems, he added.
