Protesting against the failure of the State Government to pay monthly salaries to its employees in time and the hike in prices of petrol, diesel and LPG, a dharna was staged in Johnstone Higher Secondary School compound under the aegis of the All India State Government Employees Confederation, Manipur State Union today.
The protesters comprising of employees belonging to different Departments under the State Government put up placards which read as "Control escalation of prices of essential commodities", "Pay monthly salaries of employees in time", "Constitute committee for pay revision etc".
Speaking to media persons at the protest venue, executive member of the All India State Government Employees Confederation, Manipur State Union Th Sakhi informed that monthly salaries of school and college teachers have not been paid since the month January this year.
Salaries for employees of IFCD, PWD, PHED, Agriculture, Minor Irrigation, Medical and many other Departments have not been paid since March, he added.
The recent hike in prices of essential commodities like petrol (which has been increased by Rs 5 per litre), diesel (Rs 3 per litre) and LPG (which has been increased by Rs 50 per cylinder) has multiplied the plight of the people manifold who have been facing the difficulty of irregular payment of monthly salaries, noted Th Sakhi.
