Imphal, June 01 2025:
Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Keisham Meghachandra has accused the Water Resources Department of failing to control flooding in vulnerable riverbank areas in the State.
Today, the MPCC president inspected the flood-affected areas of Heingang Assembly Constituency.
He was accompanied by AICC member N Bupenda Meitei and MPCC general secretary P Saratchandra and other party leaders.
Saratchandra, the former INC candidate in Heingang Assembly Constituency, briefed the MPCC president on the flood-affected areas within the Constituency, providing insights into the situation.
Speaking to the media on the sideline, Meghachandra stated that the Water Resources Department has totally failed in flood management.
He stated that residential and agricultural areas in several locations have been inundated, attributing the issue to the breach and overflow of rivers, which he claimed was caused by the incomplete construction of retaining walls at various places.
The Congress leader further said that the projects undertaken for critical flood control and anti-erosion measures under the Flood Management and Border Area Programme of the Water Resources Ministry in Manipur had missed their completion deadlines.
He alleged that despite the Union Ministry sanctioning Rs 460 crore for flood control measures in Manipur, the project remained incomplete, missing its 2023 deadline.
Meghachandra also voiced his concern for the welfare of the people across the State who have been impacted by the floods.
