Babysana's last rites performed

Despite the restrictions imposed under CrPC 144, a large number of people turned up to take part in a mass rally for performing the last rites of Ningthoujam Babysana today.
The mass rally began from JNIMS morgue from where the lifeless body of Babysana was claimed, and headed towards Standard Robarth Higher Secondary School hostel before heading back to THAU ground where people paid floral tributes to the deceased.
After the floral tribute ceremony, Babysana was finally laid to rest at the residence of her father at Haraorou Tangkham.
Under heavy security measures, family members, relatives, members of JAC, CSOs as well as people from Thangmeiband and various other areas came to claim Babysana's body from JNIMS.
Her body was loaded onto a truck which was adorned with her photo as well as a banner which read 'Babysana Nangdi Maheiroi Khunaigi Yaifa Tunglamchat Amagi Lamyanbini' .

With a band playing a tribute song, the truck travelled along Ayangpalli, Kongba, Singjamei and Kakwa before reaching Canchipur.
As soon as the procession reached the hostel of Standard Robarth Hr Sec School at Canchipur, some of the people tried to head for the gate but a large number of police personnel who were already deployed in the area beforehand, prevented the people from doing so.
There were some instances of people even throwing rocks at the hostel during the incident.
The situation was brought under control by the JAC members and after an agreement was reached, some family members and JAC members were allowed to go inside the hostel where they paid floral tributes in memory of Babysana in a corner of the compound.
Later, the procession then proceed towards Kakwa, and passed through Singjamei Chingamakhong, Pishumthong, Keishamthong, Keishampat, Wahengbam Leikai, Nagamapal and Khoyathong before reaching the residence of the deceased at Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai.
On the way, people and students also paid floral tributes to the deceased.
Babysana's body was then taken to THAU ground where a floral tribute ceremony was performed.
After the ceremony, the procession headed to the residence of Babysana's father at Haraorou Tangkham where she was finally laid to rest.
It is said that Babysana was buried at the residence of her father as she was fond of the place while she was alive.
During the procession, the convenor of the JAC Thingam Chittaranjan said that the JAC will continue its struggle until and unless justice is delivered for Babysana.
Replying to a query, the convenor said that now the matter is no more in the hands of the JAC as it has become a State issue and future steps will be taken up only after consideration with the CSOs and student unions of the State.
It may be mentioned that late Ningthoujam Baysana (14), a class VII student, from Thangmeiband Meisnam Leikai, was found hung to death under mysterious circumstances inside the boarding of her school in the morning of July 18 .
The State Government has also assured to hand over the case to the CBI and due to public pressure, the post mortem was even conducted twice.
It may also be mentioned that two wardens of the school hostel as well as the junior administrator of the school have been arrested in connection with the case.
