Imphal, July 28 2024:
Shiv Sena State Unit has urged all the legislators in the ruling and the Opposition to support Meiteis/Meeteis' Scheduled Tribe (ST) demand and adopt a resolution in the State Assembly.
"When the issue of the ST demand is raised in the Assembly, we expect the House to unanimously support it and adopt a resolution to send the necessary recommendation," said M Tombi, Shiv Sena State unit president speaking to reporters before leaving Imphal for Delhi.
The State Assembly session is scheduled to begin on July 31 .
M Tombi said the inclusion of the Meitei/Meetei in the ST list is the only way for the community to survive and safeguard its interests Constitutionally.
When the matter is raised in the State Assembly, all the legislators irrespective of their party affiliation must support it as one, he said.
He said the legislators must not argue but lend all their support to the cause.
During his visit to Delhi, M Tombi said he will meet the Union Health and Family Welfare Minister JP Nadda and Union Tribal Affairs Minister Jual Oram and submit a memorandum to recognise Meitei/Meetei as a Scheduled Tribe community.
He further stated that the people as a whole should support the Government in its effort to implement the MLR and LR Act 1960 throughout the State.
Protecting Manipur's territorial integrity and interests need a united effort of the masses.
While all civil organisations, student bodies, and groups have their own agenda and banners, they must unite as one to protect the State's integrity, M Tombi said.
He also sought the attention of the State Government and the Centre and urged them to devise and implement schemes to protect and rehabilitate the thousands of displaced people staying in relief camps.
Furthermore, the recent floods caused havoc and affected hundreds of households and fish farmers.
While they should be compensated adequately, the Government should waive off the loans taken by fish farmers, he said.
