Imphal, May 22 2024:
The Joint Students' Coordinating Committee (JSCC) has urged the State Government to announce a special package for the students who are worst affected by the unrest in Manipur.
JSCC is a joint body of Manipuri Students' Federation (MSF), Kangleipak Students' Association (KSA), Students' Union of Kangleipak (SUK) and another student union.
In a statement, JSCC said that students who have been taking refuge at different relief camps cannot concentrate on their studies due to myriad factors and shortage of study materials is one of them.
Saying that the fate of several students remains uncertain in Manipur given the situation in the State, the JSCC urged the Government to announce a special package for the pre-primary, primary, high school and higher secondary students.
Altogether 11,631 students are taking refuge at 293 relief centres across the State in the 2024-2025 academic session, the Committee said and appealed to the Government to carry out an in-depth assessment drive at relief centres to ascertain the condition of the displaced students.
Meanwhile, the JSCC said that they visited the relief camps set up at Phubala High School at Sunusiphai and Mangolngnabi College in Bishnupur and distributed study materials viz text books, notebooks, pens, pencils, school bags etc to the students staying there.
Saying that they will also reach out to other displaced students taking refuge at different relief camps across the State, the JSCC sought support from the people in their endeavour.
