Women groups question absence of CM at high-level Delhi meeting

Women Association For Socio Economic Development (WASED) president N (O) Nivarani Devi has questioned the absence of Chief Minister N Biren Singh at the high level meeting on Manipur violence chaired by the Home Minister on Monday.
Addressing a press conference at her residence in Jiribam, the WASED president said that the public deserves to know why the Chief Minister was not present at the meeting, whether he declined the invitation or if he was not informed about the meeting at all.
Expressing happiness that the Manipur crisis is being discussed after a year of silence from the Indian Government, she interjected that the people of Manipur will not accept imposition of PR, AFSPA or extensive combing operations led by the Assam Rifles at any cost.
Meanwhile, H Chandrabala Devi, general secretary, Women Welfare Organisation Kangleipak (WWOK) also voiced condemnation over the Chief Minister's absence at the high level meeting on June 17 .
The press briefing was also attended by Y Ragini Devi, secretary, WASED; W Dasuda Leima, assistant secretary, WASED and H Thoibi Devi, president, WWOK.
