HC admits 10 more poll petitions

The High Court of Manipur today admitted 10 more election petitions and issued notice to eight respondents (MLAs) returnable on different dates of May.
Three election petitions were listed for motion hearing before a Single Bench of Justice Ahanthem Bimol.
One of the petitions was filed by Moirangthem Hemanta against Wangjing Tentha MLA Paonam Brojen and others.
The second one was filed by Heisnam Subhas against Minister Leishangthem Susindro and five others while the third was filed by Laitonjam Jayananda against Minister Leishangthem Susindro and five others.
Three other elections were also listed for motion hearing before Justice MV Muralidaran's Single Bench.
They were filed by Ngamthang Haokip against Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen, Kenn Raikhan against Saikul MLA Kimneo Haokip Hangsing and 6 others and KS Mingyao against Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah .
Further, three more election petitions were listed motion hearing before Justice Lanusungkum Jamir's Single Bench.
They were filed by Thangjam Mohendro against Khundrakpam MLA Thokchom Lokeshwar and two others, Awung Shimray Hopingson against Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing and Kshetrimayum Kennedy against Kakching MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar Singh and four others.
All the petitions were filed under sections 80, 80-A, 81 and 84 (read with sections 100(1) (d) (i) (iv) and section 101) of the Representation of the Peoples Act 1951 challenging the election of the respondents from their respective Assembly constituencies as Members of the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly on the ground of improper acceptance of nomination by the Returning Officer concerned.
The petitions prayed for declaring the election of the respondents as void and proclaim them (petitioners) as duly elected Members of Manipur Legislative Assembly from their respective Assembly Constituencies in the 12th Manipur Legislative Assembly Election, 2022 .
Justice Lanusungkum Jamir issued notices to Khundrakpam MLA Thokchom Lokeshwar and two others, Phungyar MLA Leishiyo Keishing and Kakching MLA Mayanglambam Rameshwar Singh and four others returnable before May 30 and listed the matter on the same day.
Justice Ahanthem Bimol issued notices to Wangjing Tentha MLA Paonam Brojen returnable within three week and listed the matter on May 30 .
The same Judge issued two notices to Minister Leishangthem Susindro and five others returnable within three weeks in connection with two different election petitions filed against him.
Similarly Justice MV Muralidaran issued notice to Saitu MLA Haokholet Kipgen returnable before May 25 and listed the matter on May 26 .
The Same Court further issued notice to Saikul MLA Kimneo Haokip Hangsing and 6 others and Ukhrul MLA Ram Muivah returnable on or before May 26 and listed the matter on the same day.
Till today, the High Court of Manipur has admitted 34 election petitions and issued notices to elected representatives of different Constituencies.
