AR conducts wreath-laying events

Assam Rifles conducted a wreath-laying ceremony at the War Memorial, Joupi in Chandel district to honour its gallant soldier lance naik Bahadur Singh Dhami.
According to PRO IGAR (S), Bahadur Dhami was enlisted in the 17 Assam Rifles in 1978 and served in Sikkim, Nagaland, and Manipur.
On July 28, 1999, a unit convoy of four vehicles comprising one JCO and 25 personnel was ambushed by insurgents along the Imphal-Bishnupur road during which Bahadur Dhami suffered a gunshot wound and succumbed to injuries, recalled the PRO in a release.
Assam Rifles also conducted a wreath-laying ceremony on Monday at Sajik Tampak for rifleman Gayle Gurung, who died on July 28, 1973 during a firefight with undergrounds (UGs) at Atoizu Asukhom village, Zunheboto (Nagaland).
He sustained gunshot wounds and succumbed to injuries, making the supreme sacrifice for the nation.
The Assam Rifles saluted the supreme sacrifice of Gayle Gurung and paid respect by laying wreaths and according a guard of honour.
