Vehicular movement over Nodiya Bridge prohibited

Due to the deteriorating condition of the Phoijing Chingning Nodiya Bridge, which connects Tiddim Road and Khumbong, Phoijing Chingning Juvenile Club has declared that the bridge will remain closed to all types of vehicles effective from February 12.On Monday, the Club along with members of Village Committee, and Meira Paibi assessed condition of the bridge located under Konthoujam assembly constituency of Imphal West district.
Speaking to reporters after the inspection, Juvenile Club advisor Maisnam Biren Luwang described the bridge, constructed in 1973-74, as outdated.
The bridge, presently used by heavily loaded vehicles which should be rather ply on the national highways, has further deteriorated, causing serious problems to the public.
Most of the bridge's main components are damaged, and there is a risk of serious accidents at any time, he cautioned, and urged relevant authorities to prioritise repairing of the bridge at the soonest possible.
