Awareness programme on arrest & detention held

Bishnupur, July 12 2025:
A one-day awareness programme on "Arrest and Detention under Criminal Laws - BNS, BNSS, BSA, Serious Offences and Electronic Evidentiary Issues" was organised by the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Bishnupur, in collaboration with the District and Sessions Judge, Bishnupur, and the Dedicated Mediation Centre, Royal Academy of Law, Oinam, at the conference hall of the Academy on Saturday.
Sponsored by the Manipur State Legal Services Authority (MASLSA), the programme was attended by chief justice of the High Court of Manipur Kempaiah Somashekar, Justice Ahanthem Binfol Singh, Justice A Guneshwar Sharma, and head of the Department of Law, Manipur University, Prof Dr Yumnam Prem-ananda Meitei, along with SP Bishnupur, District and Sessions Judge Bishnupur, students of the Royal Academy of Law, Meira Paibis of the district and others.
Speaking on the occasion, chief justice K Somashekar stated that the new criminal laws - Bharatiya Nyaya San-hita (BNS), Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), and Bharatiya Sakshya Adhiniyam (BSA) - are not only beneficial to the people but also important in safeguarding their life and property.
He urged everyone to adhere to the guidelines and rules under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (now BNS), while also calling upon the police and district courts to ensure that people avail the benefits of the law.
