Imphal, January 24 2025: Former Director of RIMS Dr Ahanthem Santa Singh has been appointed as the Executive Director of All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Mangalagiri, Andhra Pradesh by the Appointment Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) .

Currently serving as the Dean of NEIGRIHMS since October 2023, Professor A Santa was the Director of RIMS, Imphal from August 2017 to October 2022.During his tenure, he was able to elevate RIMS, Imphal among the top 50 best medical institutes in India (in NIRF for 4 consecutive years) .

Professor A Santa Singh got his MBBS degree in 1985 from Madras University while studying in Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER), Pondicherry.

He also obtained an MD degree in 1990 from JIPMER, Pondicherry and DNB (OBG) in 1991 from the National Board of Examination (NBE), New Delhi and a fellowship from the Indian Academy of Obstetrics and Gynecology.

With more than 20 years of administrative experience under his belt, he served as the Medical Superintendent, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong from 2007 to 2010; Dean, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong (November 2010 to October 2013); Director of NEIGRIHMS, Shillong (November 2011 to October 2012); Principal, Medical College, NEIGRIHMS, Shillong (2014-2018); Institute Body Member, Member of Standing Selection Committee and Governing Body Member of JIPMER), Pondicherry (2014-2019) and Member of Board of Studies at Tamil Nadu Dr MGR Medical University, Chennai (2016-2019) and NEHU, Shillong.

Presently, he is a Governing Body Member of National Health System Resource Center (NHSRC) 'Think Tank' of Ministry of Health and Family Welfare (MoHFW) since 2021 .

He has been honoured as one of 20 'Best teachers in the country' in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology by FOGSI, bestowed the "Excellent Award" at the "Leadership Summit" held in November 2003 at Bangalore by Manipal Education and Medical Group and received the certificate of 'Most Valuable Resource Person (MVRP)' from IIM Shillong during the workshop "Sustainable Health Care Management System" in November-December 2012 .
