Imphal, November 21 2014 :
Following an assurance given by the All Political Parties Forum on ILPS, JCILPS Student Wing has announced suspension of its earlier plan to disrupt Manipur Sangai Festival in protest against Government's alleged delaying tactics on the issue of ILPS implementation.
The assurance was made by Forum Convenor RK Anand and MLA N Biren to the students, who staged a sit-in-protest in front of DESAM head office, Keishampat.
RK Anand said that representatives of the Forum met Chief Minister Okram Ibobi in his office chamber yesterday.
During the meeting, Forum representatives told the Chief Minister that the Forum would submit a report to the Government on December 10, RK Anand said adding that subsequently a Bill on ILPS would be passed during the winter session of the State Assembly on December 20 or 25 .
RK added that they were sent by the Government to hear the grievances of the students.
He said that the Government has taken a decision to take action against the police team, which vandalised DESAM office.
The MLA said that the Government would compensate the student's body for the loss of property in police action.
MLA N Biren said that they would convey the demands of the students to the Chief Minister.
Saying that they have taken note of the loss of property in DESAM office, the MLA urged the students to make Sangai Festival a grand success as tourists from different parts of the globe would visit the State during the annual tourism festival.
JCILPS Student Wing Convenor M Angamba said that following the assurance given by the Government, the Student Wing has revoked its decision to disrupt Manipur Sangai Festival.
However, the students would launch more intense forms of agitation if the assurance is not translated into action, he cautioned.
The convenor further said that the Student Wing would distribute pro-ILPS leaflets at Manipur Sangai Festival in order to educate the people on the need of ILPS implementation.
Angamba also strongly condemned transfer of Additional SP Y Victoria to Imphal West.
