For the first time in its history ever since it was set up 1892, the State Police Department will observe its raising day on October 19 this year.
As part of the raising day function competitions in different fields will be held for school children.
Speaking to The Sangai Express an official from the State Home Department said that plan is underway to observe the raising day for the State Police Department in line with the observation for the Manipur Rifles.
Though the State Police Department was set up in 1892, it has not observed a single raising day till date.
However the centenary celebration of the State Police Department was held in 1992 .
To mark the raising day, officials of the Home Department are planning to hold competition for school children in different fields such as essay writing competition, Mathematics competition, games and sports etc.
Cash prizes will be given to the winners of the competition, said the official and added that there is plan to award the top position holder in any field a sum of Rs 15 thousand, Rs 10 thousand to the second position holder and Rs 5 thousand to the third position holder.
Plan is also underway to allow each Government and private school to allow three students to participate in the competition, said the official further.
Surrenderee rehab : The eight militants from different organisations who laid down arms before the IG AR (S) on July 29 have been sent to the rehabilitation centre after being produced and verified before the Surrender Rehabilitation Screening Committee.
The surrendered militants included five PULF cadres, one NSCN (IM), one PLA and one UNLF men.
The UNLF had however earlier claimed that the man said to be a UNLF cadre is not on their list of cadres and had dismissed the claim of the security force.
The five PULF cadres who surrendered before the CM on July 2 as well as the other PULF man who surrendered before the DIG of the BSF have also been produced before the Screening Committee and have subsequently been sent to the rehabilitation centre.
