Imphal, October 17 2009: Asserting that the open discussion session organised by All Manipur Students Guardians' Organisation on October 14 and the resolutions thus adopted were not against the agitation being launched by the three student bodies and the Apunba Lup, Organisation president Rehang Chothe has maintained that it was just an appeal to both the Government and the three student bodies to allow the students to have their normal classes.

Addressing a press conference in this connection at the office of the Organisation here today, Rehang pointed out that efforts are being made for the last many years to make education a free zone.

However, the students have not been able to have their normal classes since September 9 last following the indefinite class boycott agitation launched by the three student bodies demanding to ensure the right to life of the people in the aftermath of the July 23 incident.

So taking into account of the numerous requests from the parents who are worried about the education of their children as well as in consideration of the fact that education is the right of the students and their parents, the Organisation had hosted the open discussion session and adopted the resolutions openly, Rehang said, adding that the resolutions were not against the student bodies or the Apunba Lup and what the Organisation had done was only to facilitate the discussion.

Advisor of All Manipur Students Guardians' Organisation RV Mingthing, who was also present during the media briefing, reiterated that the Government and the agitating student bodies should try to bring about an amicable solution so as to ensure resumption of normal classes and proper education of students.

Working president of the Organisation N Chaoba explained that appeal to the Govt and the student bodies to bring about an amicable solution to end class boycott agitation was in the interest of the students who would suffer if they do not maintain the prescribed attendance percentage.

Depriving students of their rights to education would also be loss of the society, he added.

Chaoba also said that All Manipur Students Guardians' Organisation is not against the agitation of the Apunba Lup and the student bodies but in fact is in full support of the ongoing agitation.

Another advisor of the Organisation N Tomba informed that a memoradum highlighting the resolutions adopted during the open discussion session has been submitted to the Chief Minister yesterday.

Positive response had been given from the side of the Chief Minister and preparations were being made for talks with the three agitating student bodies, he disclosed.

H Kulla, another advisor, categorically stated that in in the present conflict situation, all the people are victims.

But every efforts should be made to keep the students away from such sufferings.
