New Delhi, December 15 2019:
Manipur Students' Association Delhi has strongly condemned the recent 'arbitrary' arrests of volunteers of AMSU and other protesters against the passing of the Citizenship Amendment Bill.
All of the arrested volunteers were released on December 13.MSAD in a statement issued by its general secretary K Javed Mehedi said that the CM must know that the volunteers were not agitating against the CAA to serve their own interests but for safeguarding Manipuris including him (CM) and his family members.
"A good and decent Government should have the ability to take criticisms surrounding it and counter the voices with the best policies.
Action speaks louder than words.
The big hollow claims of being elected legislators do not mean people cannot criticize them, their policies and actions.
It cannot imply that the Government always stands saner than the dissenting voices," MSAD said asserting that "it is a well known fact that CM Biren cannot tolerate dissenting voices.
"He has been misusing the conferred power to subjugate the opposing voices.
People have the voices but he has the jail for those against him," alleged MSAD.
Accusing the CM of being a 'puppet of Delhi' MSAD claimed that CM had failed miserably regarding the Citizenship Amendment Bill that he tried to spread propaganda about the goodness of the Bill.
Stating that the four MPs voted in favour of the Bill when their home State was burning, MSAD accused the BJP led Government of coming out as 'saint' and taking all the credits for extension of the Inner Line Permit System which exempted the State from the purview of the Amended Citizenship Act.
How can a Government which supported the Citizenship Amendment Bill/Act celebrate ILP which exempts the State from the Act? asked MSAD.
"If the BJP led Government is against CAA, why is there continuous arrests of agitators who are discontent with the implementation of the Act in neighbouring States? We condemn this double standard and hypocrisy in the strongest term," MSAD said.
Strongly opposing the MPs for voting in favour of the CAB, MSAD said it is boycotting the 'irresponsible MPs of Manipur for playing with the sentiments of NE people'.
MSAD also condemned CM's alleged threatening statement of arresting and lodging FIRs against those who protest, agitate and oppose the Government.
"We stand in solidarity with those who are agitating against the Citizenship Amendment Act in every corner of North Eastern States.
We also extend our sincere condolences to the departed souls in the struggle," said MSAD.
