Imphal, July 11 2022: Chief Minister N Biren Singh today handed over ex-gratia to the next of kin of the victims of the unfortunate landslide that occurred on July 8 between Saihum village and Santing village, Henglep sub-division in Churachandpur district today at the Chief Minister's Secretariat today.

Cheques of Rs 5 lakh each were handed over to families of two deceased persons namely Mrs.Buotsai d/o Sangkhum and Mrs.Lalnunzir w/o Malsawmlien of Sipuikawn, Parbung sub-division, Pherzawl district at a programme held at CM Secretariat today.

Financial assistance of Rs.50,000 each were given to 5 individuals who suffered serious injury while a sum of Rs 10,000 each were handed over to 5 individuals who suffered minor injuries.

Speaking at the occasion, N Biren Singh expressed his deepest condolences to the families who lost their loved ones in the unfortunate incident and also prayed for speedy recovery of the injured persons.

He added that the ex-gratia amount of Rs 5 lakh was being handed over after adding a sum of Rs 1 lakh from Chief Minister's Relief Fund to the sum of Rs 4 lakh ex-gratia amount as per relevant Acts.

He further stated that injured persons can also avail the benefits of Chief Minister-gi Hakshelgi Tengbang (CMHT) if the financial assistance provided today cannot cover the treatment cost.

The Chief Minister also appreciated the support of Civil Society Organisations for extending all possible help to rescue persons affected by such natural calamities.

He also appealed to the public to inform the authority concerned if any untoward incident or natural calamity occur affecting the lives of people.

N Biren Singh also informed that the State Government has a plan to constitute a committee consisting of experts from Geological Survey of India and Manipur Remote Sensing Applications Centre (MARSAC) to conduct a survey of hill areas to prevent loss of lives due to landslides in future.

Relief and Disaster Management Minister Awangbow Newmai, Additional Chief Secretaries MH Khan and V Vumlunmang, officials of District Administration Churachandpur and Pherzawl and Relief and Disaster Management Department also attended the programme among others.

Meanwhile, TA Minister Letpao Haokip also handed over ex-gratia to the families of late P Mohan of Moreh ward number 2 and M Iayarnar of Moreh ward number 4 who were killed by unknowns on July 5 while they were returning after attending a birthday party of a friend in Tamu town.

The Minister handed over a sum of Rs 2 lakh each to the families of the two deceased in the presence of DC Tengnoupal Mannuamching; SP Tengnoupal B Golianmang; SP Special CDO Th Krishnatombi Singh and various community leaders.

Speaking at the occasion, the Minister said the Central and State Governments condemn the incident and said it was condemnable that Myanmar has not handed over the bodies of the two individuals to the families.

He later inspected the site of Myanmar army sentry post at Sunrise ground which was burnt during public agitation on July 6 following the incident.

Letpao Haokip also interacted with the locals of Kwatha village and inspected the development works being taken up in the village.
