Imphal, April 06: In commemoration of the supreme sacrifices made by heroes like Yaiskul Lakpa and his young son Shengoisana and other young soldiers during the battle with invading British forces on April 6, 1981 at Thoubal Athokpam, the MPP Youth Front observed Naharolgi Numit (Youths' Day) at Thoubal Athokpam today.

Addressing the gathering, MPP president Dr L Chandramani called upon the people of Manipur to work together with dedication for peace.

The MPP can no longer remain indifferent to the merciless killings of innocent civilians under 'black laws' not applicable in most parts of the world and the continued atrocity being endured by the people, he confided.

Leaving aside narrow political considerations and regardless of hills and plain, it is crucial to strive together for a peaceful Manipur of tomorrow, he noted.

At a time when getting Government jobs has become impossible without selling off agricultural fields and residential plots, it's high time for the youths to wake up and struggle to build a new Manipur, he exhorted.

Dr Chandramani announced that in connection with Naharolgi Numit, Ningthemcha Shengoisana Martial Arts Championship will be organised every year starting from next year at Athokpam indoor stadium.

Speaking on the occasion, ex-MLA Dr Nimaichand Luwang expressed desire to organise Naharolgi Numit as a State function.

Former Union Minister Th Chaoba asserted that youths of today should fight back the diabolic attempt of some black sheep who have been scheming to disintegrate Manipur.

Dr Ng Bijoy conveyed apprehension that the void left by the depleting population of youths may be filled up by people from other States.

Once these outsiders join in the administration of the State, then the State would certainly face a very grave situation.

Earlier, a motor cycle rally of youths was taken out from MPP office to Athokpam to mark the occasion.

There, MPP leaders offered floral tributes to the martyrs of 1891 Anglo-Manipur War.
