Imphal, February 08, 2011:
All Manipur Working Journalists' Union (AMWJU) has decried the incident in which some unidentified armed persons tried to abduct sub-editor of Hueiyen Lanpao (English edition) Keithellakpam Manikanta Meetei from his Meitram Awang Leikai residence last night.
Manikanta was returning from office when three unidentified armed persons in the age group of 34-35 ,who came in a Silver gray Maruti van from Mekola side, tried to abduct him.
In a statement, AMWJU spokesperson A Mobi Singh said that the incident has created fear in the mind of not only Manikanta's but also of other mediapersons who return home late at night after their daily duty.
Demanding to know why Manikanta is to be abducted and what he had done to deserve that, the AMWJU spokesperson pointed out that even if Manikanta had done anything wrong, the matter should be brought to the notice of AMWJU.
Appealing to all concerned to ensure such incidents of intimidating mediapersons are not repeated, the spokesperson further informed that an emergency meeting of the standing committee of AMWJU has been convened at 12 noon at Manipur Press Club to discuss the matter.
All the members have been asked to come in time for the said emergency meeting.
