Illegal migrants' should be identified in the census: MPP

Population of the migrant people settling in the state should be made known during the census, 2011 exercise, demanded Manipur People's Party (MPP) today expressing concern over the increased of illegal migrants.
MPP Youth Front president, Maniton Mangang addressed a press conference wherein he said, there is a great role of the officials engaged in the census operation as well as chiefs of hill villages and local authorities in valley areas to help in identifying migrant settlers.
He also said, government should take up steps to issue the inner line permit system, otherwise, the migrants should be deported.
Maniton further said, if an unchecked influx of migrants is allowed the indigenous people and will find it hard to survive.
The problem of migrants in Jiribam, is being witnessed in Wangkhei, and Khundrakpam assembly constituencies.
He said, the same situation will prevail in Chandel, Senapati and Ukhrul districts too, because of large scale illegal migrants from Myanmar.
Maniton further urged to stop giving wrong information to the census officials.There was a controversy in the 2001 census when an abnormal increase of population in Chandel and Senapati districts were detected.
To avoid such controversies he said security protection should be provided to census officials.
