Gang in police guise nabbed

One of a eight gang of looters in police commando disguise was caught by locals last night while trying to escape after looting a workshop at Malom Makha Leikai under Nambol PS.
Locals alleged that one of the gang members identified as Henam Dong (22) son of Purnimashi Devi of Nambol Phoijing is a police personnel currently posted at Imphal West district police.
Beaten up black and blue, Sanjoy Naorem (17) was handed over to the police, reports said today.
The incident occurred last night around 12.30 am.
Local residents said the eight member gang came in four motor bikes and knocked on the door of 'Bupen Car Workshop' around midnight.
They identified themselves as police commandos.
They stoned the garage damaging two Maruti cars and a van.
Bupen, the owner of the workshop came out, but he was hit with a gun butt and the gang took away three mobile handsets from his possession.
The gang fled from the scene though one of them later identified as Sanjoy was caught as his motorcycle failed to start.
Meanwhile, Bupen has disclosed that one of the gang member was a police personnel named Dong posted at Imphal West district police.
He said, it is possible that the other gang members were from Leimapokpam.
Interestingly, on further questionings, locals came to know that it was the same gang who looted the same workshop some five months back.
They had looted gold ornaments worth Rs.1 lakh.
