Protest held against illegal road tax

In denunciation of collection of unauthorised taxes from vehicles operating along the Imphal-Moreh road and unbearable monetary demands made to transporters plying along the route, a sit-in-protest was held Sunday at Lamkang Centre along Pallel-Chandel road.
The protest was amidst the ongoing indefinite bandh along Imphal-Moreh road called by Imphal Moreh Transport Association (IMTA) .
IMTA president Kt Ruwngam, who took part the protest, told media persons that transporters doing service along Imphal-Moreh road are now unable to ply along the mute due to illegal taxes collected by different groups and unbearable monetary demands.
Transporters were compelled to imposed indefinite bandh along the highway as expenditure incurred in plying vehicles exceeds profits followed by the sit-in-protest as part of the bandh imposed since July 24 and to high the grave situation, he said.
According to Kt Ruwngam, main demands of the association include immediate end to collection of illegal taxes from transporters, reduction of legal taxes, return of goods downloaded from vehicles and protection of drivers along the highway.
He appealed people to support the association rendering service for well being of the public.
