Sit-ins back disturbance-free education campaign

Kakching, July 28 2024: In connection with the 17th Disturbance-Free Education Zone Demand Day-2024 campaign organised by Coordinating Committee of Disturbance Free Education Zone Demand, sit-in demonstrations were staged by students and teachers in the district on Saturday to decry unreasonable monetary demands placed on schools and demand safe environment for study.

The sit-ins organised at different locations in the districts had the participation of students and teachers of Divine Life English School, Wabagai Lamkhai; Martin Grammar School, Kakching Irum Mapal; Grace Cottage Academy, Kakching Lourel Lambi; MMS Genius Academy, Kakching Irengband road; Elang Keina High School, Elangkhanpokpi; Eureka Academy, Thounaojam; Langmeidong Higher Secondary School; H Keinahal Memorial English School, Langmeidong; NB Elite Academy, Langmeidong; Rising Sun English School, Kakching Khunou; and Gem Academy, Kakching Khunou.

During the protests, the students held placards and banners and chanted slogans to abstain from placing untenable demands by armed as well as unarmed groups, government to stop politicising of education, frame laws to ensure conduct of at least 220 days of classes in a calendar year, prompt implementation of policies, prevent corruption, nepotism and favouritism in education sector, and uphold sanctity of educational institutions.
