Imphal, June 14 2024:
Assam Rifles inaugurated a reservoir embankment constructed by it at Tamei village in Tamenglong district on June 13 to assist the locals.
Assam Rifles undertook the construction of reservoir embankment after identifying that optimal use of ground and surface water through rain water harvesting methods is crucial for maintaining water sustainability owing to paucity of water sources in the area.
Accordingly, the embankment has been constructed on a seasonal brook in the vicinity of the village and it would also act as a reservoir with the capacity of 10,000 litres of water.
During torrential rains, the stream's water would continue flowing down and the embankment won't be an impediment to its natural flow.
The project has a great potential to overcome the frequent water shortage faced by the villagers in Tamei, and assists in judicious water conservation techniques for a more sustainable future.
On the other-hand, Assam Rifles hosted a "Day with the Company Commander" for students of Mapum village and surrounding areas in Kamjong district on Friday.
A total of 98 students, accompanied by three teachers and 11 parents from Kasong village in the district participated in the event.
According to a statement of PRO IGAR (South), the event featured a variety of fun activities including a 'Jalebi' race, dog show, musical chairs, and tug-of-war.
Students also had the opportunitv to tour the camp and experience the daily life of Assam Rifles personnel.
A wreath-laying ceremony at the Kasong Company Operating Base (COB) was also performed to honour the martyrs who served the nation, underscoring the importance of teamwork and camaraderie.
The day concluded with distribution of prizes to the winners and a feast with the Company Commander, where students shared their thoughts and ideas.
The initiative aims to inspire and build strong bonds with the local community, fostering a brighter future for the children, the PRO added.
