Imphal, October 19 2024: Vendors of the three Khwairamband Ima Keithel staged protest on Saturday, condemning installation of doors in the storage space under vending slots of the three markets by the Social Welfare Department without informing the parties concerned.

In this regard, Khwairamband Ima Keithel Joint Coordinating Committee (KYKCC) convenor Laishram Memma said that the markets under the ambit of MAHUD and IMC, are among the historical monuments of Manipur.

However, the Social Welfare Department, taking advantage of a deserted night, installed doors under the stalls which serve as storage facility of the vendors, without informing any of the parties concerned.

This is extremely wrong and an invite for embarrassment of the department and the powerful persons involved, for no one has the right to act wilfully in the markets without the consent of the mothers (vendors).

She continued that the installation has caused serious inconveniences and hurt sentiment of the vendors.

As such, she urged for halting the installation exercise while cautioning that those involved might repent for affronting the women vendors.
