Bishnupur celebrates World Dance Day

Bishnupur, April 29 2025: Jawaharlal Nehru Manipur Dance Academy (JNMDA), Imphal, celebrated World Dance Day at Mandapam Shree Gopinath Mandir on Tuesday.

The celebration was attended by Bishnupur MLA Govindas Konthoujam as chief guest and JNMDA vice chairman L Joychandra Singh as president, while fisheries director T Phulen Meitei and JNMDA retired pradhan guru M Kamnikumar Singh were guests of honour.

In his address, MLA Govindas stated that Manipuri dance is famous for its grace while Raas Leela, which flourished during the reign of Bhagyachandra Maharaj, is world renowned.

"Manipuri dance needs to be preserved and promoted as it is our invaluable heritage," he said.

In connection with the celebration, a 'Basanta Raas' performance was presented by JNMDA guru and students.
