Kangpokpi, April 14 2024:
Vote from Home (VfH) facility or home voting commenced in Kangpokpi district on Saturday.
Under the strict supervision of the District Election Officer (DEO/DC), the polling officials conducted the home voting for the eligible elderly voters and persons with disabilities (PwDs) under Saikul (ST), Kangpokpi and Saitu (ST) assembly constituencies in Kangpokpi district.
Altogether 72 eligible electors of the district, including 45 senior citizens and 27 PwDs will exercise their franchise using postal ballot at their respective homes/places in the presence of the polling officials by opting VfH facility.
Election Commission of India (ECI) has taken a major step towards promoting inclusive and accessible elections by extending the VfH facility to senior citizens above 85 years and persons with more than 40 per cent disability.
Starting early in the morning, the polling team comprising six teams each consisting of micro observer, two polling officers, videographer and two security personnel began visiting the houses of the absentee voters and supervising the postal ballot voting process with regard to the three assembly constituencies.
The polling team took utmost care to avoid any foul play or tampering with the ballot box.
The home voting facility has provided an opportunity for several senior citizens and PwDs in the district to exercise their right to vote through postal ballots in the 18th Lok Sabha Election, 2024 enabling them to reduce their difficulties of travelling to the polling stations.
The facility has helped in promoting equal opportunities for all and ensuring that no one is left behind in the electoral process.
It may be noted that the district will go to the polls on April 19 in the first phase voting.
