Imphal, May 31 2025:
Union minister for agriculture and farmers' welfare Shivraj Singh Chouhan held a virtual meeting on Saturday with state leaders as part of the recently launched Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan, a nationwide campaign aimed at boosting agricultural development.
However, none of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLAs from Manipur attended the meeting, sources said.
Rajya Sabha MP Maharaja Sanajaoba Leishemba was the only leader from the state present at the session, while the BJP legislators, who were instructed to participate, reportedly skipped the meeting due to the worsening flood situation in Manipur.
Launched on May 30, the Vikshit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan seeks to mobilise public representatives to strengthen agriculture and allied sectors through a fortnight-long outreach.
Saturday's meeting was intended to entourage BJP MLAs to take active roles in the campaign.
Although the agenda centred on agriculture, earlier sources told that political developments in Manipur were also, expected to surface during the meeting, amid rising public opposition to President's Rule and demands for forming a popular government.
