Kangpokpi celebrates National Girl Child Day

Kangpokpi, January 24 2025:
Kangpokpi district joined the nation in celebrating National Girl Child Day, highlighting the theme "Empowering Girls for a Bright Future" .
The event, held at the District Hospital, Kangpokpi conference hall on Friday, was organised under the aegis of the District Health Society.
Retired district and sessions judge Ngaineikim Kipgen, who attended as chief guest, traced the history and significance of National Girl Child Day, adopted in 2008 by the ministry of women and child development to address issues like gender discrimination, child marriage, and female foeticide.
She emphasised the importance of ensuring that girls have equal access to education, healthcare, and professional opportunities, calling it a foundation for a more equitable society.
District malaria officer Dr Lhingkhoneng Haokip, and CMO in-charge and District Health Society chairman Dr Paokai Kipgen attended the event, which was moderated by district epidemiologist Holminlun Khongsai.
The event included interactive discussions with girl students from various institutions, offering a platform to share their aspirations and challenges.
The celebration concluded with a pledge to prioritise girls' empowerment and welfare, effectively administered by district tuberculosis officer Dr Len Kamkhosat Khongsai.
