Workshop on artisanship, traditional skill conducted

Imphal, September 21 2024:
Under theme of 'Redefining traditional ideas for livelihood', a 3-day-long Hands-on Training Workshop on Artisanship & Traditional Skill to Empower Youth & Students was organised by HaoYar Group from September 19 to Saturday at Phalee village in Ukhrul district in partnership with Phalee Youth Organisation (PYO) .
As per a release, over 130 students from three schools and youth of the village participated in the workshop sponsored by Tribal Research Institute (TRI) .
During the intensive workshop, participants were trained on how to make use of traditional arts for marketability by incorporating modernity, it added.
Speaking at the closing function, tribal affairs & hills (TA&H) deputy secretary Dr RA Ransing encouraged the students and youth to seriously take such opportunities.
TA&H/TRI Manipur chief finance officer Ramnganing Zimik and Phalee village headman A Wungreingam also exhorted the students.
The release further mentioned that during the workshop, sculptor Themsem R Shimrei demonstrated his craftsmanship using clay and woods and traditional craftsman A Ngaranshang taught how to make traditional baskets, while S Mosang, S Ramthar and S Tongtong trained the participants on making winnowing tray.
