Lilong School observes 'Eyong-Phee' anniversary

Lilong Higher Secondary School, Lilong Chajing celebrated the 1st anniversary of "Inauguration of Traditional Eyong-Phee as school uniform for students" on Friday.
It was graced by Dr Dhanabir Laishram, Sapamcha Jadumani and Dr N Shanta, Principal of the school as presidium members, said a release issued by the school.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr N Shanta said that the function, first of its kind in any Higher Secondary School, aims to revive the socio-cultural and tradition of Manipuri.
"Since the traditional attire was already used for female staff and girl students, the target was for male students and staff of the school to wear Khudei for at least a couple of days in a week", he added.
Dr Dhanabir Laishram stressed on the need to promote the indigenous handloom products and increase its use at a larger scale to provide jobs for the weavers & improve the economy of the State.
"The revival of our culture and tradition shall wake up the youths and students, the sense of belongingness as well as patriotism", he added.
Sapamcha Jadumani highlighted the importance of traditional dress as a part of unification of indigenous people, preserving the cultural heritage and enhancing the handloom industries.
Members of Arambai Tenggol, Unit 20 also attended the event.
