Imphal, November 15 2024:
Lilong Higher Secondary School on Friday observed the first anniversary of "Inauguration of traditional Eyong-Phee as school uniform for students".
The function, first of its kind in any higher secondary school, aims to encourage re vival of the socio-cultural and tradition of Manipuri, informed principal Dr N Shanta in release.
"Since the traditional attire was already used for female staff and girl students, the target was for male students and staffers of the school to wear Khudei for at least a couple of days in a week," he explained.
The function was also attended by social scientist Dr Dhanabir Laishram and social activist Sapamcha Jadumani as guests of honour with Dr Shanta presiding over the programme.
In his speech, Dr Dhanabir Laishram highlighted the need to promote indigenous handloom products and its use on a larger scale to create jobs for the weavers and also improve the economy of the state.
"The revival of our culture and tradition shall wake up the youths and students, and instil in them the sense of belongingness as well as patriotism," he added.
