Sangeet Kala Sangam (SKS) role in promoting art, culture hailed

Wangkhei MLA Thangjam Arunkumar lauded the contribution of Sangeet Kala Sangam (SKS) in promoting the rich art and cultural heritage of Manipur as the institution celebrated its 61st foundation day at its auditorium at Khurai Lamlong Keithel on Saturday.
Speaking as chief guest, MLA Arunkumar asserted that Manipur has earned global recognition for its vibrant and diverse art forms, many of which have represented the country on international platforms.
He stressed that the responsibility of preserving and promoting the state's cultural identity should rest with the people of Manipur and not outsiders, while calling for collective efforts in achieving the goal.

The MLA praised the significant role SKS has played over the past six decades in nurturing dance, music and other cultural expressions.
Rich tributes are due to the institution's deceased elders, whose contributions laid the foundation for its continued growth and influence, he added.
The event featured the performance of a new folk dance production titled 'Yumsarol', showcasing the creative work of the institution.
Floral tributes were also offered in memory of the departed pioneers of SKS.
SKS president N Babuton presided over the function, while retired Pradhan Guru of JNMDA and Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee Arambam Tombinou Devi attended it as guest of honour.
