UAL petition seeks legal action against MLA Paolienlal

Uripok Apunba Lup (UAL) filed a petition at the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Imphal West in connection with an alleged remark by Saikot MLA Paolienlal Haokip related to the recent abduction and killing of six women and children in Jiribam district.
Advocate Manoranjan Sharma told media persons that the petition filed by UAL president Soram Tikendrajit sought directive of the court to authority concerned for taking legal action against MLA Paolienlal.
The petitioner'scounsel recounted that Kuki militants abducted three children and three women from a village in Jiribam district in November, 2023 and dumped their bodies in Barak river after murdering them.
Regarding the incident, the Saikot MLA commented in an interview with The Wire that the six, including an infant, were killed as revenge for the killing of 10 Kuki people by the CRPF troopers in Jiribam, said the counsel, adding that the petition is being filed for initiating legal action against the MLA for his provocative statement.
After perusing the complaint, the court directed offi-cer-in-charge of Imphal police station to submit a preliminary enquiry report on January 30 so that proceedings of the case could be continued.
